Support » Fixing WordPress » about comment spam

  • I am getting a couple of comment spams a day. My email messages read: A new trackback on the post “xxx” is waiting for your approval.

My comments aren’t enabled. When you go to my site, you can’t see any comments. How are the spammers posting in my comments when you can’t see them? And does it even matter if they are there? Does it count against me if these sites are leaving bogus messages about penis pills and facebook friends, even though people can’t see them? The are annoying, but I am tempted to let them pile up if it doesn’t matter anyway.

  • I think some spammers can use trackbacks and pinkbacks to infiltrate the commenting process.

One solution, if you don’t ever use comments, is just to let them build and go delete all the entries from your database every week or so.

thanks, thats what i have been doing. i’m just wondering if the comments (that can’t be seen) are harming me in any way? like search engine ranking or whatnot.
