Please, I hope this doesn’t get ignored like the previous posts regarding captions….however, I cannot seem to get any caption to work for the post image. Here is the website: http://www.cookstowncurlingclub.ca

I have tried deactivating all plugins – nothing. I have talked to the theme author, not the theme’s problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

yes, I have switched to Twenty Eleven and Twenty Ten for good measure…nothing. I have also reset the plugins folder via FTP (renaming and revert back, etc) as described in the link provided…nothing.

May I ask how you are adding caption to your images? Be specific please.

I’m adding it to the caption area of the image file in the Media Library. Here’s a screen grab of it http://cookstowncurlingclub.ca/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Edit-Media-‹-Cookstown-Curling-Club-—-WordPress.png

Problem solved. You are doing it wrong. Adding caption to the image in the media library will not automatically insert caption into your existing image on the post or page.

Go the the page that has the image in it, and go to edit. Hover over the image, and click edit image. Once there, add the caption and press update. Then you can buy me a 6 pack of beer for all my wonderful helps 🙂

    Cheers,

    Chris

    Yeah, you’ll be waiting a while…still doesn’t work.

You actually mean go to the edit page and hover over and edit…doesn’t work. I added a small caption, updated and nothing happened but it changed the alignment from right to left – no caption.

That was my original tact…after not working I tried the Media Library method because it didn’t change the alignment but it also didn’t display the caption.

    Do you have skype?

Looks like I resolved this on my own finally…lol.

It seems like its impossible to add a caption after you already uploaded and imbedded the picture/image. To add a caption, it seems you must do so straight after uploading the picture/image before saving/embedding. Once you’ve added the caption, it can be edited freely afterward.

Anyway, that worked for me. Thanks, for trying guys.

Is this inability to edit an image if it was not edited while being uploaded originally, is this normal?

Does anyone know what causes this?

I’m seeing the same thing, but only for Authors.

I have the same problem. For two years the caption on the image works. All of a sudden I guess after I updated wordpress, I noticed the captions were outside the image! It looks bad. Anyone suggest a solution? Check out our blog:

Notice that in the old post up to June 13, all captions were ok inside the image frame, but later its bad.

“To add a caption, it seems you must do so straight after uploading the picture/image before saving/embedding. Once you’ve added the caption, it can be edited freely afterward.”

I don’t think so, at least in my case. This happened after updating WP. Had no problems with it in the past.

Post 3.4, the code that image caption generates has been changed. So, it will require a theme update to solve the problem.
