I did a search for this, but doggone I can’t figure it out. I set the upload folder under Miscellaneous Options and I upload some files to it. I use the WP admin to add the links to a particular page. The page is private. So, within WP everything is fine.

How do I prevent access to the files from outside WP? I’ve tried different permissions and htaccess without success. Anyone can link to or call up the files. 🙁

    Hi,

there are various scripts to disable hotlinking. You can do a Google search for that.

If you’ve a host who provides you with CPanel, there’s one script which is part of CPanel with which you can stop hotlinking with a few mouseclicks.

What you should do anyway is putting an empty index.html page into every folder, which stops people from calling up the directory index of the folders.

If I call the folder, I get a forbidden page, that’s good, but I can call the files. It’s weird. I would think the htaccess would do the trick, but it’s not working. I’ll look for a blocking script.
