Support » Plugin: WordPress Share Buttons Plugin – AddThis » [Plugin: AddThis] Frustrated with what SHOULD BE the best social button plugin

  • Why is this plugin so hard to work with? AddThis.com and its stats dashboard, etc. etc are all great to work with. But for whatever reason the WordPress plugin is just maddening and unhelpful.

Is it really that hard to make this plugin work, and work well? Is it that big of a deal to let people pick the services they want to appear, and the size and order which they want them to? I realize you can do the latter with the current plugin, but it doesn’t work well at all: Google+ has a big space on the right, that makes a big gap between it and following plugins; Pinterest appears, but doesn’t do anything when clicked, and icons appear in different shapes and sizes. Sometimes with share numbers and sometimes without. I also realize that some of these issues come from the nature of how the share buttons were built, but there’s other WordPress plugins that do all this and do it well. The unfortunate thing is that they don’t include AddThis integration so I can get the added stats AddThis provides.

Any chance there’s an overhaul of this plugin coming soon that will make it useable for those of us who want to add some specific options that aren’t part of your defaults?

EDIT: it would be nice to be able to add other buttons that appear inline, for ones you don’t support?

  • I second this. We use AddThis and it looks pretty horrible on our site. I’m not sure what options we have for modifying the way those social buttons are presented, but I wish there were some ways to really change how they’re grouped and put together.
