I installed and tried All-in-One Event Calendar, and then I decided to deactivate it.

From the moment I clicked on the ‘deactivate’ link, I can no longer access *any* administration page! (i.e. any page with a /wp-admin/ in the URL) all I get is a blank page with no code.

The front-end blog pages load correctly, and All-in-One Event Calendar seems to be turned off, but I can’t access the back-end admin pages any more. I can only assume that All-in-One Event Calendar did something nasty to the SQL database admin entries when it was deactivated.

Any idea how I can recover by blog from this?

  • Remove the file from FTP.

    http://personalweb.about.com/od/ftpfileuploadprograms/a/01ftp.htm

If that doesn’t work, contact your hosting provider and ask to increase the memory of a file called php.ini

You can do it yourself in c-panel, however if you’re not sure ask the hosting company through live chat.

Once its increased your WP should be fine!

If all that doesn’t work….I hope you made a back up!

Thanks for the reply, ‘the scene’.

I tried removing the plugin via FTP, but the problem persisted.

Then I restored a backup of the database using phpMyAdmin. This solved the problem, BUT when I tried to deactivate All-in-One Event Calendar I got the same crash again.

After some trial end error (and a lot of database restorations) I discovered that I had to deactivate ALL the plugins at once, and then activate them one by one in order to get rid of All-in-One Event Calendar.

This led me to believe that there must be a conflict between some function of All-in-One Event Calendar and another plugin. After some more searching I think I found the culprit: MarketPress Lite (http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/e-commerce-lite)

It seems that All-in-One Event Calendar and MarketPress Lite somehow damage each other. Maybe because they both create custom taxonomies? I don’t know.

Are you using WP 3.2.1 ?
