Jetpack Error

    Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host. couldn’t connect to host

    I am running a WordPress-powered site through the SourceForge.net Project Web. I uploaded WordPress through SFTP, then JetPack to wp-content/plugins. Then I had two problems:

    1. None of the wordpress files are writable. (The dirs are 755, files 644
    2. When I try to connect JetPack, I get the error message shown above.

    Any tips of either of these problems?
