[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Any way to have sort of a "Smart Navigation"?

I hope this makes sense, here goes:
I have multiple events a client attends, and they take pictures. Oftentimes, they’ll come back with like 100 pictures. These pictures are often in the 2000px/2000px and 2 MB resolution and size ranges.
To show these pictures on my WodPress site using the NextGEN Gallery plugin, creating one Page, for instance, “Event 1 Pictures”, and one gallery to go in it that is filled with all 100 pictures is not practical. My image uploader gets hung up on creating the thumbnails and it never finishes (even when I upload only about 10 of these big images at a time).
So is there any sort of way to have sort of “classes” of galleries? Like, “Images 1-10”, “Images 11-20”, “Images 21-30”, etc. etc.? Like, split up the gallery into about sub-galleries, or somehow tell it to “Display 10 at a time” and give the user a navigation bar or something to scroll between the various sets of the 100 images?
I hope this makes sense. Someone please post again and let me know if my question just doesn’t make sens.
