Slow Server Response time – Host (1and1) issue?

    Recently my site takes 5-9 seconds at times to even start loading anything. I believe this has to do with my server (my host is 1and1.com). I ran Google Page Speed and YSlow and a few other tools. I know my site uses a lot of external scripts, has lots of images but my problem seems to lie in the server response time.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What are the best tools to check for possible response time issues? Again, the site content is a separate issue, I’m not as concerned about loading all of the elements, just getting a DNS response in the first place.
