Sorry to learn you had a bad experience. Might just be a mix of conflicting plugins/theme. Just to let you know that BuddyPress is here to stay. Cheers.

Yes, I just updated the BP plugin and have some problems. I don’t really care if BP is here to stay or not, I would just like some help.

After the update some of my page tabs on the homepage were duplicated, and now there are two page tabs for one page, i.e. “activity”. Everytime I update my BP, the pages are affected. This is coming at a time when I’m seeing more traffic.

I thought I had set the site up correctly, but it could be that I am just not that knowledgeable and can’t handle BP.

There must be a problem with the updates affecting the theme I have picked, or that I have not set it up to where the changes I make are permanent.

I need help soon, or I will have to move on. I don’t want to, but I can’t go through this every time I update the plugins.

You are free to keep on using BuddyPress or not. All up to you.

In case you do want to continue using BP, the bp-default theme navigation can be configured with custom menu accessible via Apperance > Menus. If navigation is not configured, it would default to wp_page_menu list.

There must be a problem with the updates affecting the theme I have picked

BP 1.5 is a major release with around 998 bug and enhancement fixes. Some Theme and Plugin devs are still updating their work.

I can’t go through this every time I update the plugins.

It’s going to happen again in one form or another. BP will continue to evolve and grow. Best advice is that before upgrading a major plugin like BP or the WP engine, backup database and server files/folders. That way, you can revert to backup if needed.

    Hey mercime,
Thanks for the response. Do you have a site of your own? You are correct, it is up to me. This is the first time I have written a complaint and asked for help, and what I don’t want is your condesceending attitude. You don’t need to quote what I just wrote, don’t you think I can page up one inch and read it!!! So I get your message loud and clear!!! You are smart, and I’m one of the idiots that can’t see how great BP is. I need more than just a cheerleader for BP if you get my drift. Don’t think for one minute that I don’t appreciate WP and BP efforts. The whole reason I wanted to be a part of WP and BP was because I want to see the freedom of choice in cyberspace for software and internet access continue.

I have backed up my databases, and I have fixed just about everything on my own without the help of support personnel since my last post. Cheers to you also guy, or gal, or whomever. This is what I really dislike about these kind of support forums, no accountability, and a two dimensional relationship with some smart a’s.

So, mercieme, because or your attitude, and since you have put yourself in the postiion to rep for BP, as of today, I will be looking to change my site from BP and WP. I mean really, my site is no great loss to what is going on anyway.

Just about eveyone I know loves WP, so one less fan won’t hurt. cheers.

I’m having some real challenges just installing a fresh install with NO extras. I’ve got the (historically famous) ‘pages redirect to root’ problem. Not all of them but the activity and register pages aren’t working and the css on the ‘groups’ page is off and you can only see a little piece of the image to create groups. If you try to create groups it also throws back an unknown error.

3rd fresh install on a single user site with wp 3.2.1 and bp 1.5.

Also, found this and thought it may be helpful.

Are you using custom theme? It probably needs to be upgraded to be compatible with BP 1.5. Also, did you go through the required BP Install Wizard where you assigned pages to the BP components? You might want to bump up memory limits from e.g from 16MB to 32MB or up to 64MB, it depends on server host, to solve the group creation process.

@kerrymc I can understand your frustrations on getting your site back to working order after the upgrade to BP 1.5. I don’t see where I was condescending at any time, I was just responding to your posts. Those who help out in WP and BP forums are volunteers who just want to give back to the community by assisting others where they can.
    Cheers.

    Mercime,

I hear ya. I apologize. Thanks for your support as a volunteer.

I will also use the link you posted on my other thread. Thanks.

Nope, I was using all default and a totally fresh install. I was trying to do a single site install of buddypress but for some reason things weren’t working. Groups weren’t working, page redirects back to the root. But, I decided to activate MU and got it up and moving. Maybe it was the single install doesn’t like groups, I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure out the mechanics and differences between a new group, new blog and a new site. Still kinda confused over here.

    Thank though
