• A change was made to my local folder. The wordpress contents were moved into another folder. However, my godaddy site has already been configured with the wp files in the root folder with database- so there’s a difference in the two set-ups. Are the two databases different? I’ve read that the two config files, local and remote, must match up…Does this mean that I should move all the remote folders into another folder that’s named the same as the local folder? I remember seeing a way to change folder settings in the config file but that would make the two sites, local and remote different and probably create a mess. Since all I’ve accomplished in a week has been aggravating with WINMAPSERVER, I haven’t uploaded any content so I may be answering my own question by just starting over…is that right? I have no confidence in myself with this programming language. I don’t see how you geniuses do this.

No. If they did, one of the sites would not work.

I just checked the username, password, localhost in the config file and everything does match up…they are the same and yet still work. I thought I had different host names…in fact, godaddy did have a db# after localhost that I thought I had entered into the config script. Not there now and worked the first time…still works. Localhost works. Still have to reorganize the folders I beleive…that is move everything or delete it and upload all over again…might not be so lucky the second time. I’m so tired.

SO, if I delete the site and try to upload another copy into a new container folder…
What happens to the database tables? Do they need to be deleted? Will the new install delete them or do I need to manually delete them? Argh.

What is it that you are trying to do?

Objective is to be comfortable with a local wp site for development that I can use to upload my changed files to the remote server. Databases that coordinate seem difficult.

If you’re just using the local server to work on themes. I wouldn’t bother try to get the 2 sites in sync. All you need to do is edit your local wp-config.php file to connect to your local database so that your local install works correctly.
