Support » Fixing WordPress » Controlling who can "see" blog posts..?

  • Hello,

I’ve got someone who wants me to put up a site for them, and they want to, basically, “Hide” certain blog posts until users register for a username. That is, we want it set up such that people *must* have an ID at the blog site before they can VIEW some blog posts or COMMENT on some blog posts, either one.

Is this something that can be easily configured from the dashboard or settings? If so, where are these settings?

Or, is this something that will requires a plugin/ or widget or anything?

Thanks for any insights anyone can give me on this.

    Understood; thank you, harmck.

So then, if you just set pages to be “password-protected” like that, is it then just up to the site administrator to make sure all users tat he wants to be able to get access to the password-protected post “get the password” somehow..? Is one of the useful ways just creating an e-mail list based on e-mails that users used to register for the WordPress blog as a way to create an e-mail list to e-mail passwords out to password-protected pages to users?

What are some of the reasons for registering for an ID on WordPress sites, instead of just always remaining “Anonymous” or “Guest”-like?

When you created a Private Post, it says Editors who are logged in can see the post. So when a user signs up, set them up as an editor and they can read the post.

If you make it password protected, yes, you will need to ensure people have the password.

A mailing list would be one way of managing this yes.

People use WordPress in many ways to manage online communities, so it can differ from site to site. Some websites hide content based on whether a user is signed in or not, or they offer extras that non-registered users may not normally see.
