Go to Settings > Discussion and uncheck Allow people to post comments on new articles

doh, that was way too easy. I missed (These settings may be overridden for individual articles.) thanks for help with a dumb question.

I want to have comments on my wordpress site, but only on specific posts and pages. When a new post or page is made i want it to default to comments disabled or closed. Any recommendation? thanks in advance for your suggestions.
