• I am still learning and discovering the best way to organize my site. I could use a little input.

    I would like to:

    • Limit the number of posts displaying on my front page to just 1 or 2.
    • But I would like my blog pages (such as when a user clicks on a tag to display articles related to the tag) to be essentially unlimited. For example, having 20 on one page and then an obvious link for the ‘next 20’ would be great.

    How is this possible?

This also prompts me to ask, is there a plugin or tool that would build what is essentially a table of contents page for either tags or categories. I’m thinking it would be a list of the tag and then the titles of all the articles having that tag. The titles would be hyperlinks to that article. For categories it would be a hierarchical list. Does such functionality exist?

    Thank you in advance,
    Andrew

Goto Dashboard->Settings->Reading and configure the “Blog pages show at most ” value .

Have a look at the sitemap plugin

Yes, but that is the problem. If I configure the ‘blog pages show at most’ value to 2 then when users click on a tag cloud hyperlink the resulting page that I want to show all articles related to that tag only shows 2 articles. I don’t want the blog pages to only show 2 articles.

Conversely, if I set the value to 20 then my front page shows 20 articles. I only want it to show 2.

That is the question – how can I show 20+ articles on my blog pages, but only show the most recent one or two on my front (home) page?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

PS. Thank you. I’m checking out the sitemap plugin now.

    Follow-up:
I took a look at the sitemap plugin. It’s not at all what I’m looking to find.

I am asking or something that will generate a list of articles grouped by the associated tag. For example, say I have three articles:
Article1 with associated tags “this” and “that”
Article2 with associated tags “blue” and “pink”
Article3 with associated tags “this” and “blue”

The generated map would look something like:

    This
    Article1
    Article3
    That
    Article1
    Blue
    Article2
    Article3
    Pink
    Article2

All would be hyperlinks. Clicking on This, That, Blue, or Pink would take you to a blog page with all the articles associated to that tag, just as the tag cloud does. Clicking on one of the article names would take you to that article.

This is what I’m looking to find.

    Thank you,
    Andrew

Okay, I’ve done a few hours of digging. The “DS Blog Map” does almost what I need. Actually, it does exactly what I need, except it creates the map by category. I would like to create the map by Tag.

I’m still looking, if anyone has any suggestions.

Also, I’m still looking for an answer to my primary question. How can I show only one or two posts on my home/front page, but yet show 20 posts on any other blog page?

    Thanks,
    Andrew
