• Simple put, it was poor form to de-enable the previous version (2.4.3) of Mystique and NOT put a notice in the Theme Update in the Admin.

I can imagine that hundreds of loyal Mystique users and a few who donated to support the project didn’t appreciate expecting a friendly update only to find out that the update not only gutted their site’s customization, but didn’t allow reconstruction the site without deleting the “update” and installing 3.x.

If the powers to be at WordPress do anything it should be to come up with a rule that says if your update is going to in some way either downgrade, reset or otherwise destroy customizations, that has to be duly noted and that “new” theme needs to upload into a unique directory.

Frankly Mystique growing up to be a Child/Parent theme was overdue, but next time consider alerting those who supported before, not after you update/downgrade a theme.

PS 3.0 is way to buggy to be taken seriously.

  • ANY theme you customize will be over-written on updates – that’s why it’s recommended to create a child theme

That is not correct. There are plenty of themes out there that do not over-write basic customizations like header images and backgrounds or reset widgets without some kind of “hey, this update is going to make you do the basics all over.”

Also, I can’t recall an update that reduced a themes capabilities in such a drastic fashion.

This isn’t my first WordPress or theme experience. I have used dozen, funded about a half dozen and purchased developer licenses in several. Mystique just happened to be on an earlier site and a routine updating of plugins brought the theme update to my attention.

2.5.1 is a bit too “lite” after using the previously robust version of this one-time favorite.

Unfortunately the new theme review process prevents theme authors to upload more complex / feature-rich themes, without months of explaining each function on trac. So the best I could do is to provide a link to 3.0, which is quite stable from 3.0.4 …

Mystique 3.0 version provides a lot of features, if you want to know about features then read this post:
