• I know that wordpress has a very easy 1-click install for most web hosts, but I am working for a company that hosts its own website. How do I set up a wordpress username + password when manually uploading? More importantly, can the site be worked on remotely if the server where the files are located is on one computer in the office I work?

See http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress for instructions on how to install WordPress.
    To the second question: Yes!

Does your company’s server comes with MySQL and PHP as below

    http://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

If yes, then it should be not much of a problem and you can follow Josh’s instruction.

However, hosting a website using company’s server may not be that advisable as you will be having limited bandwidth speed and possibility of having computer or server shutdown.

This company is somewhat behind in the times and has not updated their website in at least 10 years. They must have decided to host their own site 15 years ago or so… I also do not think this is the best method for them but they are also very tight with the checkbook, so convincing them to buy a host (even at the low price of $5/mo.) may be hard. I doubt their server comes with MySQL and PHP but don’t know how to find out.

Back to my original post, I would like to ask you again arrentan, can the site be worked on remotely if the server where the files are located is on one computer in the office I work?

Yes – assuming you have access to the server.
