• I’ve got a new plugin that’s just moved out of beta: Image Replacements WordPress Plugin.

    Description:

This plugin creates image replacements for HTML tags. Generally it will be used to replace the titles for posts, but it can replace any HTML tags with images of the text in any font (Yes you can replace p tags, but this a Bad Idea).

It takes a different approach to the excellent Image Headlines Plugin from Cold Forged. Rather than changing the template files to specify which tags to replace with images, with this plugin you create a replacement in options and specify which HTML tags you want to replace (i.e. h1, h2, h3, etc.). It uses javascript to do the replacement at display time, so there is no need to edit the template files and therefore it will continue to work when you change templates.

  • Okay, you’re on. I had LESS than zero luck using either CF’s image replacement setup, or David Chait’s. Maybe third time’s the charm?

Let me know how it goes vkaryl, if you have any probs, leave me a comment here or on the plugin page and I see what I can do.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I’ve been quite successfully using Image Headlines, but this does look a little more flexible.

I think I’ll give it a go on a test site. Thanks 🙂

LesBessant, can you post us a link when it’s done if you don’t mind, just out of curiosity?

I guess I don’t see the reason why you would want to replace a Post Title, for example, with an image of the same words. Is the performance better? Can you please help me understand?
    Thanks, jim

I think the only reason would be to be able to use some fancy fonts for those titles. Otherwise – if not an image – if I don’t have the font installed on my computer I wouldn’t see it…
    But I might be wrong.

How are the font/image-generation options on this? I luv CF’s Image Headlines, maybe the best WP plugin I’ve used. It lets me set font, color, and all kinds of drop shadows on my headlines. The PNG images it generates are decently small file-size so loading headline images isn’t a problem for my readers even where I display a dozen on 1 archive page.

I like the idea of using this new plugin on my h2’s and h3’s though.

moshu: that’s right, it’s purely for design reasons, it’s so that you can use any font on some text, you can also do things like drop shadows too.

Dgold: The options are not quite as extensive as the CF plugin yet. You can set the foreground & background colour, the font face & size and whether to have a drop shadow. Currently the size & colour of the drop-shadow are fixed to 1px & #BBBBBB. I’d like to include the ability to make it any size and colour but it’s simply a question of having the time to do it. The images are as small as I can get them, but if anyone knows any tricks for reducing image sizes in php, let me know.

I use the CF version of this plugin and I cannot… will not live without it.It can take a them to next level.I use it with the Drunkey-Love theme and everyone loves it.This plugin basically fancies a theme up.The best example I ever saw of it was on Geeks Make Me Hot.She changed that theme though to a new one I’m none too fond of even though it still uses the image replacement plugin.

I only get black backgrounds.. :S
