• I registered a domain name, and hosted it through hostgator.com.

I installed wordpress, however now I cannot login anywhere on the page.

When I click on the link on the sample page that says “your dashboard”, I get a message that says “error establishing a database connection”

    Any thoughts?

  • That actually doesn’t have anything to do with logging in – it means your site is not connecting to your database properly so your site cannot be displayed or run at all.

Double-check the settings on your wp-config.php page, including:

    database name
    database user
    database password
    database host

Make sure all of those are correct and don’t be afraid to ask for your host’s help if you need assistance recovering any of those four values.

How did you installed your WordPress with Hostgator? Are you using their installer script or you are simply moving all of your WordPress files from your local computer to your hosting account root?

Other than checking the database connection string as Zoonini guided, you need to make sure that you have restored your database to the server.
