• Hi! I assure you I’ve been searching for this πŸ™‚
    Problem:
I’m using the Rich editor ( tinyMCE, WYSIWYG ) and every now and then I want to check or insert HTML code.
So I click the [html] button, which suggest just that, but it pops up without any content.

    Questions:
o Does anyone have the same problem?
o Is this what is supposed to happen by design?
o Is it a browser effect? I’m using Firefox.
o Does anyone have a description of what (X)HTML tags the built in Rich editor and the “normal” text editor allows. what is stripped when saving/publishing?

o Is there a better alternative, that may be plugged in?

If you know anything about any of the above questions, pleas post it here!

  • Hi,
This also happens to me and it’s driving me nuts trying to fix this in Mozilla. It works fine in IE and I’m able to edit HTML but in Firefox, it pops up empty. Another tinyMCE button that aligns pictures also doesn’t work. I’ll post back here if I ever find out why this happens and if there’s a fix for it.

    Taht’d be great.

    Hi guys,

Fairly new to this, but now we have the visual rich editor, I’ve been using it without error in Camino – and yes and the popup html editor has been working great guns. (My default browser was Safari, but gave up trying to edit with it immediately as you all know it doesn’t do rich html, never mind the visual rich editor.)

Additionally, I was chuffed when I tried the latest nightly of Shiira; when spoofed as Mozilla/Netscape/Explorer the rich html features work a treat – didn’t think webkit browsers did this.
However, I tried the visual rich editor and although it appears to work, all your entries are lost after the save. Same applies with the popup editor – it does show content, you can add to it and it appears in your post after it is closed – but is lost when saved.

Related problem I have no idea, but though it worth a mention.

Same problem as the original poster, oddly it works fine in IE and on my laptop with the same build of Firefox as I use at home. The only difference is the plugins for Firefox so I suspect that may be where the problem lies. I will play with the plugins and see what happens.

I’ve tried the Safari Stand plugin with Debug menu and User Agent (set to Mozilla 1.1 and Netscape 7.0) and get the same results as for spoofed Shiira – i.e. don’t try the Visual Rich Editor or html edit.

The Rich to HTML swich works fine in Firefox after installing WP 2.02

    Hi all, a newbie here:

Using WP 2.02 and Firefox 1.5.0.1. When I want to edit the HTML code of an existing post and click the HTML button on the Write Post page, the HTML Source Editor opens blank. Also, I notice that when I open an existing page to edit it, that the HTML code appears for a couple of seconds in Post box and is then replaced by the WYSIWYG content.

How do I get the HTML code to appear in the HTML Source Editor so that I can edit the code?

I thought petit’s last post indicated the problem was automagically resolved, but I still don’t see the code in the Editor. Is there a “Rich to HTML swich” option that has to be selected?

    Thanks in advance.

    PS: The Write->Write Post page in the documentation seems to be for an older version of WP. hmmm….Maybe some day I will rewrite it. 8-}

Please rewrite it if you know better, or maybe add to it, stating what version you are writing for. Some people don’t upgrade, probably because of plugins dire to them.

As for my notice on the working Rich to HTML switch, that was for WP 2.02, not 2.01.

There is no switch to set – it simply should work.

You see the (X)HTML briefly before you get Rich editor, which is normal behavior.

This is what I do when I need to edit HTML:
o If the post is not saved or published ( new post ) I save it.
o I go to my accounts page and unselect “Use the visual rich editor when writing”
o I now “Manage posts” and start editing the post, now in the plain text editor.

Tedious workaround, no doubt, but it works.
An upgrade to 2.02 might help.

I’m having the same problem. Using FF 1.5.0.1 and WP 2.0. I’ll try upgrading to 2.0.2 and see what happens.

Nope. Just upgraded and it still doesn’t work right. What a shame. I wanted to leave IE behind, but now I’ll have to keep using it.

Everything OK with WP 2.02 using Opera 9 build 3216 on a Mac.

Hey you guys, try the Bon Echo Firefox release – works OK on a Mac in WP 2.02 – available: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/bonecho/alpha1/

I tried uninstalling Firefox, removing all registry entries related to it, and reinstalling with no extensions, and it still behaves the same. But it works on my laptop, which runs Win XP Pro. My home PC with XP Home is where it’s not working.

Earlier in this thread, I was happy to tell you the Rich Editor in WordPress 2.02 worked for me in FF 1.5 on Win XP Home edition. That seems to have been a happy event. It no longer works – no idea why.

I downloaded the latest version of TinyMCE, and at least their examples work well for me.
I’m not sure if the editor in WordPress is changed to fit whithin the WP environment, or of the new version could be installed in WP without breaking the system.
