First of all, awesome plug in. I wanted a way to self-host video (no youtube or vimeo) and this is perfect. As advertised: COOL VIDEO GALLERY. Kudos.

I did come against the file size issue. I have some large video files (200+MB) but it was very easy to locate the gallery folder and upload the files manually with FTP. The “Scan Galley Folder” button works like a charm.

    Two humble suggestions:

    1. About thumbnail photos: I wonder why it is required to use “png” format. I can achieve a better quality image at a fraction of the file size with a “jpg” optimized for web.

    2. It would be even cooler if the gallery could also have pages (i.e. if I have 24 videos in one gallery, I could set it to have ten show at a time and then there would be a navigation for additional pages at the bottom of the gallery.) This feature exists in the admin panel where I can set how many videos are listed and the nav is in the upper right. My thought is that this same function could exist for the actual gallery as it appears to the public.

These suggestions aside, I want to thank you for providing this valuable functionality. Much appreciated. 5 stars (already logged.)

  • I have the same issue as you. I am self-hosting the videos and most are between 100-200 MB. Can you take me through a step-by-step of how you upload to the gallery folder manually from the FTP client?
I cannot find a gallery folder or a scan gallery folder button.
    any pointers much appreciated.

Sure. I have access to my site through cpanel. After creating a Gallery using the plugin, I found the folder in wp-content/uploads/video-gallery/. I upload the videos directly to the file. Then, on the “Gallery Details” page for the gallery you created, hit the button that says “Scan Gallery Folder.” You’ll have to sort the videos and add thumbnails after. Working like a charm.
    Cheers. J.

great thank you so much for a speedy response, I was looking around in the wp-content/plugin folder and missed the gallery folder.

and it works great if i leave the windows at 400×400 px but I’d like to place the videos next to each other in rows and with smaller thumbnails (that is possible…right?), but when I change the settings to something other than 400×400 px the videos will not load or preview. any idea what is going on?
    thanks, birgitte

Not sure I know how to help you here. I was able to change the size of my preview images to whatever I wanted in the settings and then I created a page template without a sidebar so i could get more videos in a row. I was also able to alter the size of the video player without any trouble. Good luck.
