XML sitemap generator plugin and pages based website

Hope you are ok.

Just got a quick question about the XML sitemap generator plugin and my website that is essentially based on pages and uses the blog just the announce the publication of a new page / article. Also, since these articles all together create a turistic guide of a city, they would only change if somehting substantial changes about the venue / attraction (e.g they may change after a week or never for years).
At this point I wonder if it makes even sense to use the XML sitemap generator plugin or if I’m better off just managing my sitemap by hand? lastly, the frequency parameter I find it the most difficult. Static pages may change and may not. What should I choose there? How does it affect the crawl rate?
