editing/writing mode

im trying to change the way i see a post that i’m editing. ive been playing with various tick boxes in the options, but regardless of what i choose, i’m still seeing the images and formatting rather than the basic code which i prefer, and which i used prior to updating to the latest version of WP.

When ‘Users should use the visual rich editor by default’ is ticked and unticked, I see the edit screen of a post in exactly the same manner.

I’d appreciate any suggestions as to a resolution to my problem.
