• Hi…I am thinking of switching from one blog to this one and have been reading about everything and it’s a bit overwhelming. Can the beginner install all this or does it have to be done by a professional? Thank you!

  • Start with this http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

If you find this overwhelming, you could create a free blog at WordPress.com and then later, purchase a domain name to point to your free blog at WordPress.com.

Many hosts offer something called One-Click install. Its almost that easy, especially if you are just going to start blogging.

Moving an existing site: content or design is a bit more complicated.

    Hi alteredforhim,

Installing wordpress on a hosting is so easy.

The best way to test wordpress on a webhosting is install it on a free hosting.

In any case, as Garrett said, many hostings (include free hosting) have One-click install or Fantastico script. In two or tree steps you’ll have your wordpress running.

Actually, I would never recommend that anyone tries out WordPress on free hosting. You get what you pay for and free hosting invariably causes all kinds of problems.

Have a look at this post:

    Hope this helps

If you want your self-hosted WP site to have a less rocky road of going Multisite or even going social with BuddyPress, do not use the one-click webhost scripts which installs WP for you. In other words, take the time to create DB and upload WP files manually.

Mercime (BTW clever username) I asked a similar question but did not get much of a response, “Advantages / Disadvantages of One-Click versus manual install of WordPress

Can you elaborate a bit on why manual is better than One-Click?

I am in the midst of moving my site from one host to another so I am facing this issue very soon, so am trying to get as many learned opinions as is possible.

    Thanks.

Thanks everyone. I am wondering if I were to use Godaddy or any host do I have to have a special program to work in for my WordPress blog?

All I can say is if you’re thinking of using GD free hosting don’t! Go for paid hosting and also the Linux server. Trust me on this one. Also know that GD provides no support for WordPress so you (and they) will be using Google and this forum pretty much to slove any issues.

godaddy will be hosting my website as well … do they have a one-click install?

@robingk yes they have fantastico in Cpanel .

godaddy will be hosting my website as well … do they have a one-click install?

Go Daddy does not have fantastico they have their own install program

I 2nd What @mercime said as its best to learn now when you starting up as it will be useful on long run how use ftp program and how manage server as this tools are what we all use and installing wordpress manually is more simpler then used to be.
