Suggest a fix for my vertical product menu needs?
-
I’m getting ready to have my old Joomla site redeveloped with WordPress. Using the Ecwid shopping cart system. Ecwid doesn’t yet have support for category descriptions, so what I’d like to do is use something like qTip to create tool tip descriptions when the visitor hovers over a product category. I want to have my product categories appear permanently in a left sidebar. I’m new to WordPress (not a coder) and trying to find the best way to display several categories of products.. Any suggestion?

Hi dax702,
BTW category descriptions will be added to the next major Ecwid version, which will be released quite soon.
haha, Eugene, you’re everywhere! Thanks for following up on this. Do you have any screen shots of how the category description feature will look? I like the idea of having a tool tip on hover of a product category name or image because the customer can read the description without having to click into the category, saves clicks and time for the customer. If the description doesn’t interest him, then he can move to the next category by moving his mouse.. What do you think?

Yeah, we have some secret screen-shots of this new feature ; -)
#1 and
#2The idea of having a tool tip on hover of a product category name is pretty nice, we will consider it. Thanks!
Is the description in #2 that image of the smoke with the text on it? There’s some very fancy tooltip scripts out there. I like the ones that allow me to put any type of HTML into them. My idea is to have text and a video in the tooltip. But as of now, I’m trying to find the best way to display my product categories in a vertical sidebar where they have impact and stand out as opposed to boring text links..

Yep. It will be possible to use any HTML code in category descriptions: text, images, video, slide-shows, etc.

If you use a custom JS menu with links to actual Ecwid pages, then it can be customized in million different ways : -)
That’s what I’m thinking too, but I just need one out of the million ways 😉 Do you have an ETA for the product category description feature?
This is pretty nice for video tooltips:

End of June approx.
That is good because my new site will take about a month of time to develop and it hasn’t been started yet. Maybe I don’t even need to worry about this tooltip thing. Although it would be a really nice addition to Ecwid too..
I think if you downloaded this plugin you could help your SEO and generate revenue
