• Hello,

We have a website that has been running WP but is heavily customized (not by me), and we are looking to redo the layout of the site. On a separate domain I am developing the new layout but without any content (I copy and pasted some articles to see what it would look like).

How should I go about migrating the content while changing the permalinks to work on the new testing/development domain?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I usually use the built-in import/export functionality. You can find these links under the “Tools” section of the admin menu. You can export the content from your live site and then import it to your local test server.

Hmm, when I attempt that it claims that WP “Could not find the file to download.” Is there a common cause to this?

Honestly I have never seen this message. Which step do you experience this at?

    Hi,
Anybody found a solution to this?
I am getting the same error. In the past I would just click on the export button and wordpress would create the xml file. However, now when I click on it I get a blank page with “Could not find the file to download”.
I think that you are supposed get the an option page to choose the dates etc. All I am getting is a page with option buttons regarding page, posts, etc. After I click on the ‘download on the export file’ I get the error page.

    Thanks

It’s happening to me too. Same steps, same error message. It is a bit of a pain.

    What say ye, Support people?

    Thanks
