I have WordPress v3.1.3 and when I tried to activate this plugin I received a fatal error message, then gave up on it.

    Hey Daniel,

I was not able to reproduce it. What exactly was the error message?

The plugin can’t be activated, bails and therefore causes an error when your theme does not support custom headers or custom header uploads. May that be the reason?

    Hello Konstantin,

I am very new to WordPress and was curios what a custom theme needs to be able to support custom headers? I have been searching the WordPress site looking for examples and I have had no luck, I am new to the code also and still trying to see how these sites are put together but What I am trying to accomplish, is a simple thing really.

I am using the current version of WordPress along with the current version of buddy press and my own theme as a child theme from buddy press’s default. What I would like to do is simply change the header, then I seen your plugin and thought it would be perfect for the site I am building, to be able to change the header for each post would be nice. Any insight I could get would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    John

    Hey John,

why don’t you go ahead and check out the functions.php-files from the TwentyEleven and/or TwentyTen themes. There you can find a best practive implementation of the functionality with tons of comments. In TwentyEleven the header business starts around line 112.

Next you could head over to these posts and give them a look:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Custom_Headers
    http://alexmansfield.com/wordpress/wordpress-custom-headers
and if it’s not too confusing:
    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-enable-custom-header-images-panel-in-wordpress-3-0/

Let me know if that didn’t help you!

Great information Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.
