• like the title says i have problems during the installation.

i fresh installed wordpress changed the config file and uploaded all files

after using the installation routine i received this:
    ___________________

    Can’t select database

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the odb_odbwdp database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?

    ___________________________________

yes i have this prefix (odb is my username) bus i also used that inside the config file and yes my PHPmyAdmin says this database is there but empty…

    what could be wrong?

  • Is this correct:
    odb_odbwdp?
Or should it be: odb_wdp ?

    (@javatis)

    nono odb_odbwdp iss correct

odb_ (prefix added by the hoster)

    odbwdp (the database name i entered(in c_panel))

    odb_odbwdp (in phpmyadmin)

also checked the database with c_cpanel it says:

    odb_odbwdp is now being checked.

I’m running into the exact same error. I have created the database and can select it using phpMyAdmin, but when I try to run the WordPress install script it says it can’t select the database.

I’m using Media Temple for my hosting and have never run into a problem like this before (using earlier versions of WP).

I’ll keep looking for solutions, but if anyone has any tips…

Did you make sure to create the database first since most hosting companies will require that the Database be created using their own DB create tool.

i’m having the same issue. correct username, password, version of PHP, MySQL, etc, but no access. i created my database using the tool within cpanel, and it checks clean. for some reason wordpress cannot access it..

btw, i’m hosted through dragon networks and using cpanel, if that helps anyone understand my specific issue. thanks.
