I’m doing a weekly blog about the architecture and design in my community. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I know each entry is really long but each post is a self-contained topic and kept in the archives.

Wow, love the way the colors go together. Your site looks very nice. I would maybe move the links and the contact info into the sidebar near the top (this would also cut down the lenght a bit). I’d say you’re doing a good job, especially since reporters are requesting interviews:)

    Hey Ricky!
    Interesting site 🙂
Yes, I agree .. lot of content. but the good thinks is you like writing and thats what wordpress is for!

so here are my thoughts and suggestions.

    First off
    1. lot of content like you said. Content can be optimized many ways so its easy for a viewer to read. Other than using archives or categorizing the information, one can also use the “more” tag to expand posts that are have a informative. (ref: http://goo.gl/G5X6)

    2. The photos you have used in your posts are of good quality and to complement that, it would be nice to see the header image at a higher resolution. Stretching a small image makes it very pixilated. The same applies to the Background image (ref: http://goo.gl/jMKVh) Ton of sites out there that have higher resolution images.

    3. I’m not sure I completely agree with nmfrazer, The color pallet for the site is not exactly complementary. Don’t take me wrongly, but some times using too many colors can be a bit confusing to the viewer (for eg : the site’s header is black text. the posts header is green on yellow background. The side’s description is red, links are blue, tags are multi-colored.. etc) use a color generator site to find ‘complementary’ colors ( colorschemedesigner.com maybe? ). Stick to two colors is good enough. This will help your viewers figure out whats a header or what is highlighted. Use font thickness, boldness and size to make up for emphasis.

    4. I noticed that at the end of the home page I could not access any of your previous posts. You could place a “previous page” link here so one can read previous posts.

    5. the “about me” page can be changed to just “about”. It reads clearly either way. Not to correct your style of writing, (Im terrible at writing.. better at drawing) but the first line in the about me page is in third person and then it switches over to first person.
You could also change “About Columbus, Indiana” to juts “Columbus, Indiana”

    6. It would be nice to have a Gallery Page so it showcases all the photos which you had taken of this pretty place.

    7. Avoid having long pages, Break up the pages

    8. The title of the page and the header both contain text that kinda reads the same. You could just add “52 weeks in… ” to the header image.

    9. If the option above sounds like a good idea, you can kill the ‘home’ page link on the nav bar and make the header link back to the home page. This is becoming the rule of thumb to have the header image clickable.

Hope you found these suggestions useful and all the best with the rest of your stay there at Columbus!

    Cheers

    Ajay,

Thanx so much for your genorous and constructive ctitique!

    Content:
I’m still reluctant to alter the length of content. I want each post to be a self-contained article for future reference but the consensus of opinion is against what I’m doing as far as length!

    Header and Background Image:
I’m still trying to figure out what I want to put as my header image. What I’m using is a unique image that I want to use but it was not made to be stretched like I’m doing. My background image I also want to use but it was meant to be tiled as a windows background and probably not coming off well here.

    Color Background:
I definitally went overboard on colors. I went with a theme extension (“Weaver”) that gives me way too much control without really knowing what I’m doing. I’m at least going to get rid of the yellow text background while I explore my color scheme. Thanks.

    Home Page:
What I want to do is come up with a home page/menu listing the topics/posts but I haven’t quite figured out how I want to do that yet. What I’m doing now is just bringing up the one most recent post but it doesn’t have an redirect at the bottom and it’s already scrolled past the sidebar.

    First/Third Person:
I have my first and third person formats all mixed up. I’m trying to offer objective descriptions but include my personal opinions as well. I need to clarify my writing style.

    Gallery:
I’m not quite sure I understand how to implement the photo gallery concept but it is something I need to explore. Thanks.

    I would advise:
    1. make the link to your site target=_blank
    2. ME write as Me
    3. make the home page shorter

    Psyling,

Thanks for the comments. What does this do and how would I do it:

    1. make the link to your site target=_blank
