Support » Fixing WordPress » Can I install a second version of a WP site

  • As I learn and make major changes to a previous WP site, I thought it might be best to install a second version and make the changes to that so nothing breaks. I intend to really move things around and custom ize a theme. Is this the best way to go about it? I feel if I try to make and changes they will show online as it is now.

  • Your best option would be to install mamp if you are on mac or wamp if you are on a windows based machine locally. Then install wordpress. This will essentially turn your local machine into a development machine. Once you are done with the theme edits, upload them to your production site.

Oh yes I am familiar with that. I already develop on my local machine using IIS and MySQL. Its just the person I am working for wants to see a second version tested online before I switch it over.

yea then u can test online by installing WP in a subfolder
