• I recently got Awake a theme from theme forest and am having problems installing it. I have went through many help forum’s and I am reading that the most common answer is to use FTP – not something that I want to do.

The problem that I am having is after trying to install the theme is keeps saying 500 Error –

Could it be that the theme is way to big of a file to be uploaded via the normal upload process via the WordPress admin field?

I do see that the file is 8.74mb –

    Please give advice!

    Thank you in advance!

I would like to add that I am able to upload many other themes with no problem – from wordpress and even elegant themes with no problem – just as a fyi – this is why I think that it is the awake theme maybe being to big of file ?

I also think that the file is too big. If you go through the motions of uploading an image to your Media Library, you may get some indication of the upload file size limit on your server. My guess is that it’s 8meg.

    Hi Esmi,

I am doing this for a client and they are wanting to get their hosting switched over to GoDaddy – will this help the current situation? Do different servers have different limits on uploading of the server?

BTW – thanks for the quick response !!!

yep different servers have different limitations on the size of uploads. If u have a cpanel access to the domain, then you could simply upload the zipped theme onto the site and extract it via cpanel… its painless 🙂

    I guess 8mb wouldn’t be much for Godaddy’s servers 😉

I just tried to upload the same theme to 5 different sites that I manage and they are all having the same issue with this theme. I do see in WordPress that the largest media file you can upload is 8mb – I have got to be uploading the wrong file – 8.74 is huge for a theme ! ?

hmmmm may be 8.74 is huge for godaddy!

do u have access to cpanel?

If yes then you could split your theme into 2 zip files, upload and extract them from cpanel instead of uploading from wordpress dashboard

or just bite the bullet and use ftp…

why is a .zip file 8.74MB?
