static front page plugin and a normal blog

    Hi ! first of all i want to thank a lot for a system like WP, with so many people contributing and sharing…

    Im a newbie in WP, and im trying to install a blog in: http://www.echoes4ever.com/blog
    and after posting some.. im still working with CSS to put it right. Put on y jorney to understand the WP tags i found a plugin that would permit me use WP as a CMS with a predefined
    “PAGE” as my front page site. ok it woreks fine.. but then i tried to use a link (as u can see in the top of the page) to link to my blog category i´ve created as the “http://semiologic.com/software/static-front/” tells me to do so. but somehow my posts doesnt appear anymore.. it keeps me saying 404 error.

    please anyone ?? i would be very glad.

    It looks to me like you might have set up pretty permalinks, but might not have rewrite rules to match. I say this because I can’t access ANY of your categories using the links on your sidebar, but I can get to them using the direct method (for instance, http://www.echoes4ever.com/blog/index.php?cat=3 takes me to your ‘delirios’ category).

    Yaeah ! u were right. Thanks again.

    But do u have any clue how to use named permalinks to work on it ?? like:

    %year%/%postname%

    ????
    Ps. thanks again. for now im using number permalinks.. ?cat=5 style.

    There is a lot (and when I say a lot, I mean a LOT) of info on permalinks in the WordPress Codex. The condensed version is like this — you will need a ‘.htaccess’ file in your root WordPress directory. Once you have that, allow server write permission (chmod 666 .htaccess from the command line) and let the WordPress tools do their magic. When your done, change permissions back to 644 (read/write for owner, read-only for everyone else).

    thanks once again.. 🙂 and by the way i enjoyed ur site, t is about biology and i just used to LOVE biology. 🙂 i even attended to some classes in university.. but as life did gone by.. i had to make different choices, here in brazil we don´t have much field for researchs of sea lifes or felines… 🙁

    but our biodiversity is awesome.. why don´t u come up here one day ???

    You are a lucky individual to live in such a place as Brasil, with all its diversity. I hope to visit some day — one of my best students was from Brasil, always trying to convince me to come.
