    Hello,
I’m about to set-up a Multisite network, initially with just 5 or 6 sites.

I know I can’t use shared hosting, so was wondering what sort of spec’d server I’d need? RAM, CPU capacity etc..

    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

Most any dedicated server or VPS should work. If you go with low end specs and want good performance, be ready to tune Apache, PHP and MySQL. Otherwise, specs depend more on what you want to do than on WordPress.

    I know I can’t use shared hosting,

Shared hosting is not recommended, that does not mean you can’t use it.

If the 5 or 6 sites are the only ones you’ll ever have, sometime you will be just fine.

The bare bones VPS I recommend starts at 512 megs of RAM. And that’s if you’re going up to a few hundreds blogs.

IMO it depends more on the traffic you get than the number of sites.

I have ONE site, a single site, which needs a VPS. Yeah. 😉

    That too. 🙂
