Had some questions, wondered if one of you knowledgeable people could help

1.Do trackbacks only work, if the site your trying to work with has trackbacks enabled?

2. How do you do a trackback.. this is what im doing tell me if this is wrong..

I find a site related to mine.. if its interesting post.. I click on the POST TITLE and take that URL go over to my blog.. and do a post saying I just read about blah blah blah site.. But I dont place a link in the post.. I place the link in the trackback field..

Am i doing this correct?

3. Does anyone use trackbacks anymore?

4. how do you disable trackbacks?

1. Yes

2. You’re almost right. You need to use the post’s special “Trackback URL”. If the author wants to receive trackbacks, then the “Trackback URL” should be listed somewhere. Everything else that you did was fine.

#2) You should still place a link in your post if you want your readers to be able to visit the related site. If the link is not there, it will simply ping the related site, but your readers have no idea how to get there.

So you need to send a trackback (notifies the related site) and provide a link for your readers.

#3) Yes. However, I use a thing called Kramer http://dev.wp-plugins.org/wiki/Kramer to gather incoming links. This way I am not dependent on another site providing a trackback. Kramer will find them for me. (note: I don’t know if Kramer works on WP 2.0. I’m not upgrading yest so I have not done the research)
