trying to format home content

I am trying to format my home page content here so that I can have the list of services more organized.

I have been using my test site trying to get it right. Here is what I have.

I have tried ~4 different column plugins and they all give me the same problem of the space above and below is to big (as you can see on my test page)

any ideas?

Should I just have the whole content area redone in css?
