Want post summary with thumbnail…??

Ok so on my main blog page, I want to show a summary of the post (word count – as some a very large!), but still retain the embedded images, and other code, such facebook like.. etc…

Ive tried severat excerpt plugins, none of whch are able to show the thumbnail that is embedded into the full post.

Ive even tried tag exclusion options in theme excerpt options, to exclude both img and img src, but still no image…

Any suggestions please???
