• All:

I have recently worked on installing a small network. All of the sudden, I started receiving all these wierd emails with password ‘resets’, ‘new user registration’ etc.

When I tried to login with my super admin account, my password was not accepted. I ‘reset’ my password, but have not received anything.

I still control my database, and was wondering two things:

    1) what are the role capabilites for a super admin?
    2) is it possible to delete the super admin? if so, how do you create a new one?

Has my site been compromised? If so, can I take it back, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Any suggestions are appreciated! My site is not that deep, so at worst I guess I could simply delete my WordPress install and start anew.

Are there security issues in a network to be aware of?

    Best,

    David

    1) Everything

    2) Yes but … well, it’s a bitch to make a new one.

The basic logic here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password will work for restting your admin password. I’d try via the DB.

All of the sudden, I started receiving all these wierd emails with password ‘resets’, ‘new user registration’ etc.

Um, this is normal. You are the super admin, you get notices. you can adjust this under Network Admin -> Settings.

    Andrea:

Sure, I understand this is normal activity, but I was concerned because all of a sudden my super admin password did not work, and the notifications were all related to password resets for blogs previously created by the superadmin, or other users.

It was like all of a sudden someone was simply making changes to the site, and had yet to change the admin email.

Time to go db diving. 🙂

I’d also change all the passwords you can – hosting account, ftp account… just in case.
