• I upgraded yesterday to WordPress 3.1. Although the upgrade was reported as successful, the site no longer functioned, and I had to go through the manual removal loading of the 3.1 release. I think I followed all the instructions, and at the end, the site was active again, and it then upgraded the database. Everything seemed to be OK.
I then saw requests to approve 4 spam comments, and so looked at the Plugin section of the Admin Dashboard. There was a message that said Akismet had been deactivated due to an error in the header (I think). I have tried several times to reinstall Akismet as a new plugin, but each time I get:
    “Installing the plugin…

    Destination folder already exists. /homepages/23/d898409/htdocs/backyardsilver/wp-content/plugins/akismet/

    Plugin install failed.”

Is there a way to reinstall Akismet and get it working again?

Thanks for the speedy reply. I found two folders for Akismet – one in wp-content and another in plugins in that folder. I deleted both folders and reinstalled Akismet. It worked perfectly. Thanks!
