Support » Plugin: Ultimate Post Type Manager » Ultimate Post Type Manager – WordPress 3.1

Since upgrading to WordPress 3.1 I cannot edit one of my custom post types – the only option that comes up in the admin post listing is the view option and the post title are not links.

If I try to add a new post of this type I get the message: “You are not allowed to edit this post.” (I am logged in as administrator)

I have no problems with the other custom post types for the site – they are still editable. The only difference I can think of is that they do not have any custom fields – the non editable custom post type has about five.

All was working perfectly until I upgraded to 3.1.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this could be fixed?

    Many thanks
    Lynne

Same here. It seems to be a sort of capability/roles problem…

Same exact problem. I can create new and edit (non custom) posts but cannot create posts with custom fields. This is on a brand new installation of WordPress 3.1.

I am sozzledboot but I had to re-register because this forum forgot my password but remembered my username.

Anyway, the solution I found was to uninstall everything and go back to WordPress 3.0.5 obtainable from the Release Archive.

I’m having the same problem. When I manually enter register_post_type in the functions.php I’m still unable to edit the entries after regaining the post type in the admin sidebar.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Because I think it is a user privilege issue, I wouldn’t touch a fix with a ten foot pole unless it came from a developer or a few dozen guinea pigs.

As I see the problem, WordPress is demoting the admin to a guest or registered subscriber status.

FYI, since I was trying out this plugin on a brand new WordPress site, I ended up scrapping it and using Magic Fields instead and Magic Fields worked great.

    Interesting. What is Magic Fields?

Anyway, the problem here has to do with WordPress user privileges which is system-wide. I don’t think a plug-in of any kind will help. The core code has to be fixed (maybe post.php?).

Honestly the best way to integrate custom posts types in 3.1 is to register them in the functions.php without a plug-in, using register_post_type. If you learn its parameters it will be time well spent, affording you a ton of flexibility down the road. The documentation on this function is fairly detailed and Tadlock has a nice article on it as well.

Best advice: trade the plug-in in for some good old-fashioned copy, paste, and tweak.
