WP Multisite vs. Seperate installations
-
I am trying to decide which is the best solution for me, multisite or a separate installation of WP.
I have a main site, a members only site and 3 additional subsites. For the members-only site, I would like to have one username and one password for everyone who needs to access it. Previously, htaccess was the solution. I have tried the membership lite plugin, but I don’t care for WP’s registration and login system at all, and this doesn’t address a single user/pw anyway.
In addition, I would like to use subdomains. Right now I am set up with subdirectories and the host cannot link a subdomain to a virtual folder.
[1] I wonder, with the above information, for the members only site, would it be best to do a new install at sub.site.com OR continue with WP MS, switch to subdomains, and find another plugin to password protect the site?
[2] IF I do a new install for the members only site, how do I remove it from the current multisite set up?
[2b] IF I move from subdirectories to subdomains, is there yet a definitive guide written for the transition?
Thank you very much!
