Categories used as navigation

    Hey, my first post here.
    I am designing a page and am a bit confused.
    If i wish to use my post categories as my navigation, but want to also have a latest news section made of posts, does that mean I have to write the navigation into the actual php footer and then use my blog’s categories for my latest news section?
