• Hi:

I am trying to move my WordPress blog from godaddy hosting to 1and1. I have moved a WordPress site before with no trouble, but I absolutely am at a loss for what is causing this move to not work.

Initially, when I moved the site, I got the error message “Error Establishing Database Connection” I kept double checking my database name, user name, password, and host name. It was all correct. Eventually it stopped giving me the database connection message and I was just getting a generic “place holder” page from the host as if no files had been uploaded. I ended up removing the site and doing a clean WP installation just to see if it would work. It worked perfectly. So I tried uploading the old site again and it still didn’t work.

I noticed on GoDaddy, the php version is 5.2.14 and on 1and1 it is 4.4.9. Could this be causing the issue? I edited the .htaccess file to make 1and1 use php5, but all that did was change the error message I was getting. Now I receive “Internal Server Error”

If anyone has any ideas at all, I would love to hear them.

    Thanks!

  • You need to check with 1and1 host see if they can help you as looks like is server problem and only they will be able to log in your account and check the problem.

I have contacted support, but so far they haven’t been very helpful. Waiting for a response to my last email.

I just noticed today that the database on GoDaddy is MySQL 4, while the database I’m importing into at 1and1 is MySQL 5. Would this cause a problem?

Having different versions may be the problem.

Anyway, if you are having too much trouble and wont get any answers from hosting support, my recommendation is that you make the clean install again. And use or install wp backup plugin or use the default export/import tool from WordPress and pass your themes and plugins from one hosting to another.

I recommend you use wptwin, or some free version of something like wptwin. It has worked great for me when I need to pass one wp installation to another hosting.
