Support » Fixing WordPress » site randomly accessible and not accessible

  • I have a working site, but sometimes when I try to access the site I get the 404 error. I still can reach the mysite/wp-login.nl. Sometimes it helps when I go to the dashboard, change nothing, but just press save. But also sometimes this doesn’t help, so probably this has nothing to do with it. So, without changing anything the site sometimes gives the 404 error for a while and also sometimes it works again without changing anything. The wp-login area is always reachable.

Two possible causes have come up to me.

I created a new page and made it my static front page. The front page is now twice visible. As the front page and also as itself somewhere else in the menustructure. To get rid of the second duplicate front page I set the visibility of this page to private. Can this be the cause of the unpredictable behaviour. Probably there is also a better way to get rid of the duplicate front page, but I haven’t found it yet.

    Second,
I have some other virtual machines with the same site on it, just for testing things. Can it be things get mixed up this way. Seems inpossible to me, but you never know.
