yes, that is a choice we had to make. Updates to get send out daily I believe. it’s been a while since I coded that so i don’t recall. we could make this an admin option in the back end. boone is working on the plugin now, perhaps he could add it.
An admin option woud be a good solution. And yes, the dayly digest includes activity posts, but not the new topic or weekly summary.
But the plugin USED to send out emails for group activity (new updates in the feed). What the heck? Why the change? None of my users use the Forums. Forums in BuddyPress are stupidly confusing… especially to non-geeks. People always just post right in the feed… 99% of the time.

@dwenaus – Do you know if updates/activity will be considered a “topic” either automatically or as an admin option in a future version? It’s confusing to have some type of group activity sent for some email options and other types of group activity sent for other email options. I would never expect a user to understand these differences. And I think it makes little sense. The options should be about frequency only and not make a distinction between posts and updates. To be honest, most users have no clue as to the difference between forum posts and group updates.
@takeok – you are right the decision is somewhat arbitrary – it is because the client I developed the original plugin for wanted it this way. I should be more explicit in the documentation that this is the case.
It would make more sense to have some options in the back end admin page so that each site can choose it’s own behaviour. If you’d like to support this with a donation it could be accomplished. I’m not soliciting work – i’ve got more than I can handle right now – i’m just stating the reality of the situation.
