[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Permalink – redirecting images to parent post not working

When activating “Redirect attachment URL’s to parent post URL.” under the Permalink section, the expected result is not working as expected.
User gets a 404 error instead of being redirected to the parent URL as you would expect.
