Editing and saving any page then viewing any page causes 502 Proxy Error after several minutes of waiting if TEC plugin is active. isitdownrightnow.com shows the site as inaccessible. At some point the site comes back online. Not sure how long, I have tested again in 15 minutes, it could be less than that.

After deactivating TEC the problem does not occur.

Second problem: Viewing the Calendar page causes 502 Proxy Error without any edits to pages.

    I have tried:

    • increasing several PHP variables (PHP Time Limit, PHP Max Input Vars, PHP Mem Limit).
    • Clearing server cache
    • Turn on DEBUG in wp-config. Nothing of interest appears in debug.log
    • Deactivate all nonessential plugins
    • uninstall TEC and reinstall
    • Copy everything to a staging site on different webhost. After page edit/save, it works sometimes, other times it takes a very long time to display a page, however it does not generate a 502 error. Also, viewing Calendar page works. So it’s better, but still not working reliably. Maybe this indicates there might be a server configuration issue?

Any ideas of what I should look for or try?

Live site (TEC is currently deactivated) is on Hostmonster:

    TEC 6.10.1.1
    Theme: Avada 7.11.14
    WordPress 6.7.2
    PHP 8.2.18

Staging site (TEC is active) is on Siteground, same versions of everything except

    PHP 8.2.27

Hostmonster was no help. They said to contact TEC support or Avada support. I submitted a ticket with Avada. I will report the result here.

    Hi @paul-hartman

I hope you’re doing well! I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. It’s been a little while since we last heard from you, and I was wondering if you heard back from the Avada support.

    Looking forward to your reply.

I created a dev site with fresh install of WP, the Avada theme, and TEC. Then exported WP content from live site and imported to dev site. Still have the problem. I contacted Hostmonster support again. They increased the PHP variables to max and the dev site now works but live site still does not. So I have to figure out what is different between the two sites. Menus weren’t copied to dev site, and probably some other things. I need to do more research.

More info: Avada support said to contact Hostmonster.

And: TEC is acting strangely on the live site: https://chatterleigh.org/calendar/ I don’t know what causes this. There are no events, organizers, and venues.

    Hi @paul-hartman ,

Thank you for your message and the update.

Do you happen to have WordPress debugging on the live site? If you do, are there any errors thrown in the debug log when the events archive (or calendar) page – https://chatterleigh.org/calendar/ – is accessed?

I do not have debug turned on now, but that was one of the first things I tried when I started working on the problem. Nothing in the log so I turned debug off.

Another data point: Yesterday I updated the Avada theme and that caused the same problem — the site is inaccessible for a few minutes and then 404 or 502 error. TEC was activated.

Avada support is looking at it.

It seems to work now. Haven’t given it a thorough test yet, but I haven’t gotten a 404 or 502 error so far today. The solution was disable the option “Combine Third Party CSS Files” in Avada > Options > Performance.

The development site has that option enabled and the problem isn’t present there, but I’m not going to try to figure out why it’s different on the 2 sites. I will just leave that option turned off so I can get on with my life.

    Thank you for your assistance!

    Hi @paul-hartman ,

Thank you for your message and we’re glad to hear that things are working now on your site.

We appreciate you sharing what you’ve done to alleviate the situation. It makes sense to deactivate the option to combine third party CSS files within Avada as The Events Calendar’s ships with its CSS already pre-combined.

Please feel free to let us know how things go or if you have further questions/concerns.
