Use WordPress for a MediaWiki's Front Page

I want to embed WordPress on the front page of my MediaWiki page. That is, just show news posts, their layouts, and the page numbers on the bottom of my regular WordPress page to scroll through old stories. Is this possible? I’ve been able to include the WordPress header on my MediaWiki page using the information in the third post here (http://www.mwusers.com/forums/showthread.php?15192-Nesting-MediaWiki-inside-Wordpress), but I can’t figure out how to incorporate the news posts in the same manner.
