• I believe that I”m using the most recent version of WordPress. I recently downloaded an e-commerce plug-in and now I get the error “500 Internal Server Error”.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I’m a beginner and having a hard time following the directions available online. Could you please dumb it down for me so that I can fix this?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

500 errors indicate a PHP error or that the server is unhappy with something in .htaccess.

    1. If you remove that plugin, are things OK? (If you cannot access your site, you can delete the plugin via FTP.)

    2. What plugin is it?

    3. What version of PHP is your server using?

    4. Try enabling WP_DEBUG and see if you get anything useful: https://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG
