 * All day today, March 18, 2015, I have been unable to access the admin portion
of either of my websites. I get the “Internal Server Error” white screen of pain,
   and the following:
 * _“The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable
   to complete your request._
 * Please contact the server administrator, [cgiadmin@yourhostingaccount.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/500-internal-server-error-374/cgiadmin@yourhostingaccount.com?output_format=md)
and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
that may have caused the error.
 * More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
 * Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying
to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
 * The sites seem to be running OK. For instance: [http://www.brightproductionsgroup.com](http://www.brightproductionsgroup.com)
 * I just brought up a brand new domain today, used the MOJO marketplace to install
WordPress 4.1.1 and when I went to access the admin page, I got the exact same
error message. So, I doubt it has anything to do with anything I’ve done on my
   sites.

 * Any suggestions from the experts??

 * I would contact your hosting company. It may be some server configuration issue
that only they would be able to solve.

 * 500 Server error messages tend to be the result of a misconfiguration in the
HTTP server, a common example is with a problem in a .htaccess file on Apache
   for example.
 * If you have access to server error logs then you might want to take a look and
see if there is an error showing in the logs.
 * If that is no joy, then you might want to temporarily rename your htaccess file
if you are using Apache to .htaccessold. If using an FTP client you may have
to flag, show hidden files. If that let’s you get into the admin area, then go
to Settings Permalinks to generate a new htaccess file.
 * Failing all that, try contacting your host, as their may genuinely be an issue
   with the server.

 * Thank you Jose and Tim! I will try both of your suggestions. Though I get the
impression that it might be my host, iPage.
 * Cheers!
