5 minutes to upload an edited product page
-
Its been taking a long time for my edits to a product page to publish for a while now. So I timed a couple and they took 4.5 to 5 minutes to upload. I tried with several different browsers and got the same result. My upload speed is about 30mps. I work on a laptop and no problems with it.
Not much help from my host on this, they tell me it looks fine from their side…, but I don’t always get reliable info from them. In any event, this is way to slow… I’m just checking to see if this somehow a new “norm?”

Hi @gyanarthi,
Yes, this seems to indicate an issue with your hosting speed. As my colleague suggested, you can check with them to increase your PHP memory, time limits, and post size.
Alternatively, you can try to upload the file in multiple parts, too, as the more products it contains the longer it’ll take to upload.
Please let us know how it goes.
-OP@omarfpg the problem happens only in woocomerce when I’m trying to publish an edited product or add a new product…when I press publish it takes 3-5 minutes to be updated.
Other pages, not woo commerce, update quickly.
To be clear…you created a woocomerce test site that had my products on it, and this publishing problem did not happen…Is that correct?-

Hi there @gyanarthi,
problem happens only in woocomerce when I’m trying to publish an edited product or add a new product…when I press publish it takes 3-5 minutes to be updated.
Other pages, not woo commerce, update quickly. This is quite odd as my colleague was able to upload your CSV file into their site and tried making aan update to one of your products and the update was up in less than your described time. In that case, this could probably be an issue with your web host.
To be clear…you created a woocomerce test site that had my products on it, and this publishing problem did not happen…Is that correct?
Yes, these were the exact findings from my colleague. As a next step, I can confirm that we have a new version of WooCommerce. Could you please update your WooCommerce plugin and all other plugins in your site to the latest versions and check if the issue persists?
Looking forward to your reply to assist you further.
@ckadenge thanks for the clarification…. WooComerce updated, as are all plugins..just did a product edit and it took 4minutes 8 seconds for an edit to publish….
(Before I posted this question here, I spoke w blue host about the problem and they said “It looks all good from here” it sounds like a woocomerce problem” ) But I’ve found Bluhost help to be not always “helpful”…
These are current settings:
PHP max input variables=5000
PHP time limit =600
PHP memory =512 (but I’m on shared server so maybe not all the time)
Max input time =180
WP memory limit 256M
PHP post max size 516M
What”s my next step… not being able to easily edit/post products is not workable.
Perhaps, if I could publish an edit, and publish another before the first completes and then another… can the system cue them up and complete one after another till they all complete without crashing?? I could at least work with that till I find the solution.Hi there @gyanarthi,
I truly understand your frustration on the time it takes to edit a product. Having successfully updated all plugins, I recommend making a test on a different host, this can be a local host from your personal computer or a temporary host like this one. You can try exporting your site and try it on a local environment to rule out any possible issues with your host.
Should it be possible to edit a new/existing product after exporting your site to a local environment/temporary host, this would clearly indicate that your host is causing the issues with slow edit times.
You can find details on setting up a local host here.
I hope this helps.
@ckadenge Thank you… i created a clone on updraft….and edited a couple products…
“publish”” upload= 52 seconds, preview = 1:35 minutes
I messaged updraft to find out where my clone is located, I am in US but have not heard back.
Both these results are much better on the clone than with bluehost – at least the 52 seconds is -is the 1.5 minutes in the expected range as well?
If so, and my next step is with my host. How can I convince them the problem is with their server. They were the first people I contacted, and said it was not a server problem. Do I need to keep my clone in place? Perhaps just showing them this message thread will suffice. Guess it depends who I speak to.
I really appreciate all the woocomerce help. You have been very patient with me, and my lack of knowledge re: following your suggestions. Its been good for me however…learning more all the time.
cheers
bennetHHey, @gyanarthi!
I’m glad it was faster, but 52 seconds to update the changes and 1.5 minutes to load the preview is still quite a lot of time.
I just tested on my website and it took me 32 seconds to open the product, edit the description, save the changes and load the preview page.
Have you tried editing the products on a different browser and/or a different internet connection to compare?
Do I need to keep my clone in place?
If it is not too much trouble for you, it would be good to keep it for now. This can still be a server issue, but since the cloned site got better, but not exactly good, I’d like to troubleshoot a bit more, is that okay?
The clone site you made, did it have any plugin active besides WooCommerce?
Which theme were you using? Can you try deactivating all plugins but WooCommerce on the cloned site and switching to the Storefront theme to check it the issue persists? (in case you haven’t done that already).
Please let us know how it goes.
Looking forward to your reply.
Have a wonderful day!
@carolm29 …thank you, I thought the whole process should be relatively seamless, 32 seconds would be wonderful.
I need help to get this fixed desperately.
I think I tried with different browsers but I’ll try it again. I only have one internet connection, but can go to a cafe and use theirs.
I’m checking to see if updfraftplus can keep a clone viable for several days without needing a token daily.. if not I’ll need to find another way to clone it.
It’s supposed to clone the entire site, but I’ll check the plugins with tenext clone I put up.
I use Astra theme – and elementor for my pages but not the products.
I didn’t see the storefront theme when I set this up…. I think it might have made things a lot easier.. anything I would need to know before dis-activating Astra and activating storefront?
I think one of the agents set up a test woocomerce site and we loaded my products up… and said it worked OK. Here’s the reply i got,so I dont really know what OK meant…
“my colleague was able to upload your CSV file into their site and tried making aan update to one of your products and the update was up in less than your described time. In that case, this could probably be an issue with your web host.”
Ill get started with it right away.. thanks so much
bennett@carolm29 I went to my wpmu hub to see if they offered a clone option, and noticed a performance flag on my dashboard:
“The setting for post_max_size is smaller than upload_max_filesize, this could cause some problems when trying to upload files.”
I corrected that.. and I now get the same results you mentioned… so not a server problem at all…
So glad you saw my request and offered to pursue it further..l’d still have been running around in circles.
When I relax a bit from this adventure, I’ll start the edits for G Merchant… and probably asking for help again 🙂
thanks so much!!!
