I originally downloaded WordPress from WordPress.com, I decided to switch over to WordPress 2.5.1 to use the special features etc. When I installed WordPress last I had my domain mapped through WordPress so I could use the domain I had setup for the blog.. * My issue?? * I talked with a consultant here and the person advised me to undo the domain mapping and change my nameservers back to those provided by Bluehost my web host. * Just a few hours ago I downloaded the 2.5.1 with the “5 Minute Install” from the Documentation site. What I did not understand was if I should have removed all the first WordPress files from my root folder? When I completed the 5 Minute Install I downloaded all the new files and folders to my root folder, and replaced the old “themes, content, etc” folders and files that were previously there…I’m not sure if this was a good idea. * After I completed uploading all the files to my FTP, I then exported my WordPress log file containing all my posts, comments, pages, etc. The only problem after doing so was after visiting my site (www.blogstodiefor.com) my site does not have any of my content on it. * I’m wondering where my error was made, or if this is something rather small to correct? * When I access my dashboard, all my posts, pages, categories are there just like before I installed the 2.5.1, but nothing is visible when you visit my website. * If someone could please help me out that would be great. * Thank You! Your posts, pages, and comments are kept in your MySQL database and the import process (importing the XML file you exported from your wordpress. COM blog) is how you get posts etc from your old WordPress.com blog to your new blog. * If the posts etc are showing in your admin section (Manage->Posts), but not showing on your blog, I can only guess that your theme or some plugin is causing those posts not to display. * Thread Starter [afiovino](https://wordpress.org/support/users/afiovino/) * (@afiovino) * [17 years, 11 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/5-minute-install-problem/#post-794265) * Since I have been using the wordpress version from WordPress.com, I do not have permission to download or use any plugins because I still do not have the plugins tab. * I have changed my theme several times and still nothing. I am wondering what good it would do to delete the blog and then follow the download process again. So what you’re saying makes very little sense. * If you are using WordPress.com (note the COM there), then you are in the wrong place. I then signed up for the “domain mapping” because I already have a web address that I wanted to use through my web host. * About one week ago after reading documentation and also from the forums, I realized that if I wanted to use plugins and also install Adsense ad’s into my site I would have to use the self-hosted WordPress. * So, yesterday I decided to use the “5 Minute Install” to download the self-hosted wordpress. I uploaded all the files/folders from the install using my FTP to my public html root. * What I did not understand was what to do with my old WordPress files/folders that were in my public root already. So once the 5 Minute Install was complete I uploaded those files using my FTP and overwrote the old files/folders that were there. (I think this is where my problem is because I do not think I should have overwrote the old files that were there) * When I access my dashboard I still have all my posts, etc there but they do not show up once I visit my site (www.blogstodiefor.com). What I find is the theme that I was previously using and the Adsense ad banners that are now somehow working. * I was thinking that maybe I should just delete the blog and also delete the files/ folders off my web host??? Leave WordPress out of the mix. BUT regardless, please make sure you do have a backup of your Database also.
