• I updated my podpress and now in iTunes it shows my podcast (punched in the podcast) with an unknown author and with a title (Punched in the podcast >> Podcast feed) that’s incorrect. My website (Punchedinthepodcast.com) was running smooth with the older version of podpress, but now i cant seem to get my original iTunes settings working. It doesn’t even show the podcast summary. how can I fix this?

  • At the Feed/iTunes Settings page is a new section which is called podPress Feeds. This new section contains the settings to control the meta data of the podcast feed. There you can modify the feed title, the author name and the summary as well. These settings have been the same for all feeds. But now they are separated and you have the possibility to vary these settings for the additional feeds like the one with name podcast.

Your observation that during the upgrade some values have not been taken over is right. But it should definitely be possible adjust these values.
Have you upgraded from 8.8.6.3 to 8.8.8.4 directly?

The podPress versions 8.8.8.1 – 8.8.8.3 have no appropriate mechanism which takes over the old settings automatically. If you have upgraded to one of these versions first then you need to adjust all these feed meta information settings manually. Please, take a closer look at the podPress Feeds section.

I’m sorry that your upgrade went not smooth and that there were not more helping notices during or after the upgrade and that there were not enough automatism. I will be more carefully with new feature in future versions.

Every time I enter everything in the podPress feeds section and I click on activate feeds I then click on update options it erases everything i entered. When the page reloads and refreshes everything i entered vanishes. plus the data i enter in feed podcast-feed states “current Feed URL
    http://punchedinthepodcast.com/feed/podcast-feed/

but the podcast original feed is http://punchedinthepodcast.com/?feed=podcast . Im so stuck, please help.

Is the Feed with the slug name “podcast-feed” (in the podPress Feeds section) active after you reload the settings page?

http://punchedinthepodcast.com/feed/podcast-feed/ is the “current Feed URL” of the Feed because the slug name is “podcast-feed”. It seems tome that you have changed the slug name.
In general, if you modify the slug name of such an additional Feed or if you de-/activate a Feed, you should save the Permalink Settings afterwards.

If you like to have a Feed which is reachable via http://punchedinthepodcast.com/?feed=podcast or http://punchedinthepodcast.com/feed/podcast then you need to change the slug name of one of the additional Feeds in the podPress Feeds section to “podcast”.

That the settings for these Feeds are not getting saved is a problem. But I have trouble to reproduce this kind of behaviour.
What I can say about the option update is that the Feed Name and the Slug Name field should not be empty. Also the Slug Name should not contain unusual characters like quotation marks.
That at least one slug name has been modified after one of your clicks on “Update Options” is a clear sign that this saving the settings has worked before.
What have you changed before your last attempts to save the settings again?
What are the Feed Name and the Slug Name value?

When the page reloads and refreshes everything i entered vanishes.

Have you used a Safari browser to view this settings page and to modify the settings?

    Tim

I, too, have the same problem. I recently updated from 8.8.6.3 directly to 8.8.8.4 and now the “current Feed URL” title under the “Feed podcast” expandable section reads http://theonlypodcast.com/feed/podcast/ when it should read http://theonlypodcast.com/?feed=podcast . The slug name that showed up, without me typing anything, was “podcast”.

I just downgraded back to 8.8.6.3 to avoid confusion with iTunes.

@toptm: http://theonlypodcast.com/feed/podcast/ and http://theonlypodcast.com/?feed=podcast are practically the same thing if you use a Permalink scheme which is not the default one (as you do it) then the “current Feed URL” of the Feed with the slug name “podcast” is http://theonlypodcast.com/feed/podcast/. It is the http://theonlypodcast.com/?feed=podcast URL in the current Permalink scheme. The Slug Name in the case above is not “podcast” and of the URLs that is why http://punchedinthepodcast.com/feed/podcast-feed/ and http://punchedinthepodcast.com/?feed=podcast are not URLs for the same Feed.

But I have noticed that both of your URLs are leading to a page which says “ERROR: podcast is not a valid feed template.”. That is a clear sign that you need to re-save your Permalink settings. Don’t change anything. Just click at the Permalink settings page on “Update options”. That is always necessary after you have installed podPress the first time or after you have changed the Permalink settings while podPress is deactivated. That is necessary even with older podPress versions.
8.8.8.x gives you the possibility to rename the podcast Feed what CVT abviously did. But you need to save the Permalink settings after renaming a Feed too. If you change the slug name from “podcast” to something else then the there is no Feed which you could reach with http://www.example.com/?feed=podcast or http://www.example.com/feed/podcast.

toptm, please, save your Permalink settings and the problem with you “/feed/podcast” Feed will probably go a way.

    Tim

    Tim,

You may have received the error because I was having trouble with my FTP client while trying to re-install your plugin. I just validated both “/?feed=podcast” and “/feed/podcast” and both work. I have the slug name to “podcast” and clicked “update options” so hopefully iTunes will have no trouble this time.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
